Porn Shoots Reverting Back to Boogie Nights

It has been discussed by a variety of professionals in the business that some porn shoots have reverted back to the seventies by flying stealthily under the radar.

Colin Rowntree, who hosts the podcast DirtyOldMen.tv, says “I’m on the east coast, but I have a lot contact with people who are in the production end of things in the city of LA where it’s now a law that you need permits, and condoms and all of these new things.” He continues, “What I’m hearing from the street and from the people who are shooting is that it’s like a blast from the past. Everyone meets at a Wal-Mart parking lot, gets into three or four different vehicles that all take separate routes to an undisclosed location where they’ll shoot some scenes.”

“As soon as all the performers, cast, and crew arrive, their cellphones are taken away, the GPS is shut off so no one can see where they are. They go in, they shoot and they get the hell out. It’s very much like the Boogie Nights era all over again.”

To be fair, no one and no agency is fully set up for enforcement of the mandate including the police, or fire departments or film agencies in LA. They can’t figure out how to go about implementing these laws without it costing a fortune for tax payers. It’s almost as if the politicians themselves realize how silly this actually is, and how much work and finance something like this would consume to begin and how much it would take to just keep it going.

So for now, some producers are being cautious. Others still have their big sound stages, have permits and cover their asses – well, maybe not cover them, but certainly are obeying the less-enforced laws.
